They always say the wedding industry picks you, you don’t pick it. And that is exactly what happened to our CEO and founder, Mary Kate.

When she left her full-time job to pour everything into MK Your Dream Day, it was a leap of faith. And just like we support our couples every step of the way, MK leaned on her own community for guidance. One of the biggest influences in her journey? The Wedding Pro CEO community and podcast, where she recently sat down to share how she went from solo planner to running a thriving Boston-based wedding planning team.

Networking Is Everything

MK’s first wedding came from a coworker who needed help. With MK’s background in nonprofit events, she happily jumped in.That single wedding led to her next couple: the maid of honor from that same wedding. From there, word of mouth fueled the fire and launched the early success of MK Your Dream Day.

As MK stepped into the wedding industry, she leaned on her nonprofit and hospitality network, as well as friends and fellow Providence College alumni. Gaining insight from professionals, asking questions, and relying on her resources helped her quickly build the confidence and knowledge to grow her business.

Growing Your Team at Your Pace (and With People You Trust)

MK started MK Your Dream Day as a one-woman operation, leading every wedding and managing every message. As the business grew, she realized she couldn’t be in two places at once.

Beginning with assistants and eventually training two lead planners herself, she built a team she trusted, one that upheld the same values standards she set for herself and her couples. Today, you may not see MK at every wedding, but she’s always behind the scenes, supporting her planners and continuing to grow the company with intention.
